1994: Puppy Loves Midnight Feast

Posted by Gemma Jaleel on October 4, 2007 11:03 AM |

Forgiven after emptying the Webster family's fridge, puppy Ben is kept firmly under control by five-year-old Joe Webster with (clockwise from top) brother Andrew, 9, sister Louise, 8, and brother Tom, 4, making sure he doesn't do it again

This picture shows a very cheeky puppy named Ben. He was featured on the front page of the Advertiser in February 1994, after clearing out the whole contents of the fridge while his owners slept.

He ate a whole chicken, an Edam and several other cheeses, 20 tubs of yoghurt and half an apple pie.

The seven-month-old pup learned how to open the fridge and even chewed the top off the bottle of water to wash down his feast.

Owner Roger Webster of Hall Lane, Lathom, said: “He was a brilliant dog but old age got the better of him and he passed away a few months ago, aged 14.

"It was such a surprise to come down and see all the food pulled out over the kitchen, but that’s what Labrador’s are like – into everything! We have two more now, Jake and Charlie and they’re very well behaved.”
