1983: Rainford kids streets head of Ken Barlow

WHIZZ kids from Rainford got the better of Coronation Street’s Ken Barlow back in the early eighties.
Actor William Roache took part in a computer golf tournament with Jennifer Singfield, seven, and her brother Alan, nine.
But he met his match with the youngsters who took part in Granada series, “Chip In, in August 1983.
William, who played off a real golfing handicap of eleven, said: “I could not swing it with these pros and I would need lessons to have any hope of beating them at their own game.
The sister and brother team first got hooked on computers when dad Sid, a BT data processor bought one. On the show they got the chance to show off their staggering knowledge.
