1989: Farewell to Rainford CE headmaster John Neville Fairhurst

CHRISTMAS comes early this week as pupils at Rainford CE Primary School say goodbye to their headmaster back in 1989.
Sporty John Neville Fairhurst blew the whistle on his 35-year teaching career and waved a fond farewell.
The popular headteacher had worked and lived in Rainford for almost 22 years and said that he would still be taking a keen interest in the school and community.
A life-long fan of Preston North End, he also vowed to keep an eye on the team’s progress.
He told the Advertiser at the time: “I enjoy walking and other sporting activities and I am looking forward to spending time doing all the things I’ve not had time for before.
