CHRISTMAS comes early this week as pupils at Rainford CE Primary School say goodbye to their headmaster back in 1989.
Sporty John Neville Fairhurst blew the whistle on his 35-year teaching career and waved a fond farewell.
The popular headteacher had worked and lived in Rainford for almost 22 years and said that he would still be taking a keen interest in the school and community.
A life-long fan of Preston North End, he also vowed to keep an eye on the team’s progress.
He told the Advertiser at the time: “I enjoy walking and other sporting activities and I am looking forward to spending time doing all the things I’ve not had time for before.”
