THIS week we have a picture taken in 1985 of David Bellamy at Martin Mere in Burscough.
Botanist Bellamy was there to open the Wetland and Wildfowl centre’s new marsh garden.
When it was opened the garden was the only one of its kind in the North West, featuring plants like water lilies and marsh marigolds.
Bellamy first entered the limelight as an environmental consultant at the time of the Torrey Canyon disaster, a huge oil tanker which wrecked of the coast of Cornwall in 1967.
He has written and presented around 400 television programmes on botany, ecology, and environmental issues.
