WE begin with a “Voice from a Crowd�, a band from Aughton who were making themselves heard in 1983.
Our picture shows band members Richard Hampson, Neal Aitken and Dave Anderson, all aged 18.
With Neal on drums and Richard, better known as Chod, and Dave on lead and bass guitars, they were playing venues in and around Ormskirk.

SPORTING legend rugby star Bill Beaumont who dropped by Croston Methodist school opened the school’s fair back in 1988.
Bill was captain of the England rugby union team, playing as a lock.
He won 34 caps for England, then a record for a lock, and was captain 21 times. He made his international debut as a 22-year-old in Dublin in 1975 as a late replacement for Roger Uttley.

WHIZZ kids from Rainford got the better of Coronation Street’s Ken Barlow back in the early eighties.
Actor William Roache took part in a computer golf tournament with Jennifer Singfield, seven, and her brother Alan, nine.
But he met his match with the youngsters who took part in Granada series, “Chip In�, in August 1983.

ELEVEN-year-old Damien Dunn came up trumps in 1983 with his nifty bit of detective work.
When the youngster handed over a large stone over the bar of the Red Lion pub in Burscough, landlord Des Feely promptly honoured a pledge he had painted on the stone, before hiding it in the Lake District.
On it was written: “If you find this stone, then claim your free pint at the Red Lion, Burscough.� Des had hidden the stone in a wall near a stream. The wall crumbled and the stone fell in the stream.
