THIS week we catch up with the cast of “The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew� as we sift through the 1991 Advertiser archives.
Competition for roles at BURSCOUGH PRIORY HIGH SCHOOL was fierce as all the pupils wanted to take part in the children’s play about a beastly baron who strikes terror among the natives, ruling the Bolligrew Islands with an iron fist and calling on a demon dragon to gobble up those who disobey him.
The story of the heroic knight Sir Oblong, who is sent from the mainland to restore peace by slaying the vicious dragon, is the creation of Manchester playwright Robert Bolt.

THE early 90s brought us bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Green Day.
But one band in Up Holland were searching for fame and fortune, on the verge of their big break and would become one of the biggest names in the Brit-pop movement.
They were of course, The Verve, fronted by lead singer Richard Ashcroft. All four members were students at Up Holland High School.
